(Hi, I’m Mary & these are your Nigerian-Canadian community updates for the month of January.)
Now if you’re a food lover and a fan of Nigerians breaking world records, the founder of Naija- Jollof Toronto, Beauty Obasuyi will be attempting a cooking marathon for Guinness World Records. This event is set to take place at their Brampton Location (295A Queen Str E #38B) from January 10- January 18 so if you happen to be in the area, please drop by to support her or buy something off her wish list via the link in our bio. As a fellow Edo babe, I know that “Oma easy” but we will be there to cheer you on.
Earlier this month, Jake Okechukwu Effoduh, a Nigerian-Canadian lawyer and international human rights advocate announced that he has joined the Lincoln Alexander School of Law at Toronto Metropolitan University as a tenure-track assistant professor. Congratulations to you Jake. We are proud of you and if you’re a law student at TMU, don’t forget to give him a warm welcome.
On a not-so-pleasant note, a 19-year-old international student at the University of Manitoba, Afolabi Stephen Opaso (Zigi) lost their life after he was fatally shot by an officer in Winnipeg on New Year’s Eve. As our community mourns his untimely death and as his friends and family search for answers, we encourage you to support his burial arrangements through the GoFundMe Link in our bio or seek #justiceforzigi through the email template in our bio. May his soul rest in peace.
